Slow Down And Savor The Holidays With Presence

Slow Down And Savor The Holidays With Presence

Happy Holidays!

I wanted to wish you all a holiday season full of presence.

(OK, maybe a few presents too!)

This time of year can be a mixed stocking for most of us, full of something sweet and a few lumps of coal. There is some coveted time off from our usual schedules and routines, as well as lots of things to do that are filling up that time off! And, there are the complicated family relationship dynamics that we are often expected to put aside for the sake of having a happy holiday. Whatever you find yourself doing this holiday season, experiencing the joy of the season comes in part from slowing down and putting your full attention on it. This is no easy task! We are all pretty distracted by all of the things that are vying for our attention. (To get rid of a BIG distraction, turn off your phone!) In order to resource yourself and come away from the holidays relaxed instead of drained, inspired instead of resentful, and connected instead of disconnected, it’s important to prioritize yourself and make this time your own. Choose a few things that put you in touch with the holiday spirit in your own unique way and slow down and enjoy them. Whether you take a walk to look at lights with friends, sip a holiday coffee at a local coffee shop, or write some heartfelt cards, settle into the experience with your whole Self- body, heart, mind and soul, and don’t be in a hurry. Relish the pace of slow. That way, even if your holiday dinner gets derailed by something unpleasant, you are resourced enough to stay calm, present, and compassionate. Wishing you a joyful end to 2025.
