It’s not always easy to break off relationships, even when they soured long ago. However, working to maintain an unhealthy friendship is not a good use of energy. Instead, think about why you want to step away from this person. If you can figure out what behavior they have that is bothering you, or exactly why it is you want them out of your life, it may be easier for you to find a good way to let the friendship go. Depending on what reasons you have for distancing yourself from your former friend, you may decide to discuss the situation with your friend, simply let the friendship fade away naturally, or confront this person with respect to an unforgivable act.
